We made it home! We were worried about the long flight from Tokyo to Dallas with Miss Hummingbird and her constant need to eat and "buzz around" but she did wonderfully. She slept for about 5 hours in the middle of the flight and Zoe slept about 6. Both girls were awake the last hour and a half and were excited to be home. I was completely nauseus towards the end of the long journey, but felt better once we were down completely. Amy asked if we were in the USA and I said, "yes" and she said, "Really, it looks like the airport!"
We headed off to Immigration with our packet of papers that would make Amy a citizen with Amy yelling, Ge Ge, which means Big Brother, as we had told her that Ty would be picking us up at the airport. There were 1000 people in the Immigration room! We stood in line for 25 minutes and then were told we would need special processing and we needed to wait in a different section for the special processing of orphans. We sat in this section for 15 minutes when the one man doing these applications went home. He forgot to tell anyone that he was leaving so we sat there for 20 minutes waiting for a new person to come before we finally asked the supervisor for help. He said he would need to process all the rest of the people in the room and then he would send someone over to help us. Turns out he didn't think that anyone on shift knew how to do the special processing. Mike went over and said it didn't seem fair that all these people who came after us would get to be waited on first. The supervisor yelled at him and told him to go sit down. We ended up waiting 2 and a half hours to be processed. The guy who finally did it admitted that there were only a few people who knew how to do it and the busiest time is 2:30 to 5:00pm. I couldn't figure it out because we went through customs and immigration with Zoe in about 15 minutes. Anyway, we finally picked up luggage, which had been sitting there for 2 and a half hours and met our big kids, Hannah and Tyler, who also had been sitting there 2 and a half hours and headed home, trying to keep the girls awake so they could sleep when we got home. Amy was pretty excited so it wasn't too hard. We asked her where she wanted to eat on the way home and she said, USA McDonalds. So we headed to McDonalds and then home.
It was so fun to show Amy the house and her room and everything. At one point she came down the hall into the livingroom and put her hands in the air and sighed. Then she said, "piao, liang" which means, "beautiful". It was really cute.
We unpacked, started laundry and the girls played. Mike went to bed as he had tried to pre-jetlag himself by not sleeping the night before the trip. The girls showered, we ate some Ramen noodles and watched a tiny bit of tv before going to bed at 12:15. I was really worried about jetlag for my girls, but they slept until 9:30 when I finally had to wake Amy up!
Right now, they are outside playing together so nicely. It is so wonderful to be home. Thank you everyone for your prayers. Amy is adjusting beautifully. This adoption had been so wonderful and easy and we know it is because we were completely covered by you in prayer. Praise God!
I wish that you all could have met the wonderful families we were privileged to travel with. The journey was made more special and fun by their company!
Well, I am headed to town. I just realized we will need a booster seat and I am hoping that we all can get haircuts before Easter. I will try to post again soon.
